Wow! We have been talking with third graders about how different writers can tell stories in different ways. Did you know that The Boxcar Children is a series of books, a series of graphic novels, and a set of Twitter feeds?!?
We can watch the Boxcar Children’s Tweets here, thanks to a wiki page that Miss S set up for us. (Twitter doesn’t let students under the age of 13 have accounts, but having Twitter “push” JUST the Tweets we want, without access to talking to others, delivers Tweets in a safe way to kids.)
Today, our third graders did an amazing, amazing job interviewing Boxcar editor Wendy McClure about the series, working with authors, being an editor, and more! Mr. L, Mrs. K, Miss S, and I were so proud of our students’ excellent questions, mature behavior, thoughtful listening, and overall engagement.
Here are some photos and videos of the event. At the end, you can see some screen shots of our wiki page of Tweets. Look how the Boxcar Children were writing to us throughout the morning! How exciting!
Thank you to everyone who made this possible, especially our great interviewers, Michelle Bayuk at Albert Whitman Publishing, and Wendy McClure!
Here are two videos from today’s interview:
Did you know that Benny’s favorite show is the Beverly News??? 🙂
I think our third graders may need to help brainstorm a list of favorite books for the Aldens, and we’ll send them next time they come!
