A place to read, think, and grow!
I’m really looking forward to working with staff to create engaging and authentic learning experiences for Pembroke students! Below are a few professional books that I purchased over the summer that are available for you to check out!
FYI: Our professional literature section has moved to the shelf below on the right, next to the computer lab doors. (The shelf on the left is reference: dictionaries, almanacs, etc.) Take a little time to browse the other professional books and Lucy Calkins metor texts that are there as well!
Pembroke Media Center is getting into Back-to-School mode. You can also follow on Twitter @pembrokemedia. See you all soon!
Kindergarten students have been doing a character study by reading Anansi trickster tales by Eric Kimmel. The final story they listened to was Anansi’s Party Time. At the end of the story, Anansi and his friend crab are stuck on the moon! After hearing all of Anansi’s previous adventures, it was now the kindergartners turn to write the next one!
Students partnered up and created their own solution to Anansi’s moon problem using what they already knew about Anansi’s character and his previous predicaments. Students then wrote their stories by illustrating the beginning, middle, and end. On the next Media day, students partnered up again to tell their stories to each other. Finally, each story was scanned onto the computer and each student recorded her story using PhotoStory. Take a look at our new collection of Anansi adventures by clicking on the links below!
